Earlier this month here in Utah, there was a tech conference called the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit at which the CEO of some company introduced baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Before he invited A-Rod onstage, however, he mentioned that his company uplifts women and asked the women in the room to stand up.
As they stood, this CEO invited A-Rod onstage and asked the women to cheer for him (describing them as his “fans”) then told them to sit down and said, “Sorry ladies, he’s taken.”
I wasn’t at the conference but I have to admit I found reactions to his supposedly SEXIST comment completely laughable!
On this episode I break down some of those reactions and go over my take on the silly aftermath of that comment.
Newsflash! If you CHOOSE to be offended, it’s your choice, your problem. If you then decide to blow it out of proportion, it’s still your problem, and know that someone somewhere will apologize to you, not because you’re right and they’re wrong, but because they’d only rather placate you, pacify you. Hush you like an adult would a little kid, because you’re acting like a kid.
These “victims” simply choose to get their feeeeeelings hurt and bring on other people who had nothing to do with it, instead of manning or womaning up and confronting that situation like a grownup.
How about you victims who CHOOSE to get offended at everything follow this simple tip:
If someone does something hurtful, then the first question I ask is: Do I know this person? If the answer is no, then I brush it off and move on.
If it’s yes, then I ask: Do I like/respect this person? If the answer is no, again, then I brush it off and move on.
If it’s yes, THEN I ask, Did they mean to be offensive/hurtful? If it’s no, then I brush it off and move on. And if it’s yes, then I revisit question 2.
Why allow someone who you don’t know or may not like to have such a negative impact on your life?
