Hey! I’m Annie and I enjoy speaking my mind.
Some might call me sassy–a label I embrace because it shows how threatened some choose to feel by my voice and point of view.
While my beliefs may not be shared by most, I cherish the fact that the seeming minority of people out there do think like me, and I appreciate the ability to communicate to and with them.
In a day and age where the media likes to spread insanity, fake news, and stupidity, I prefer to think critically and share my take with you all.
Be careful when you follow the masses. Sometimes the “M” is silent.
I was born and raised in Colombia.
But I’m not (nor was I ever) an illegal. In fact, my parents applied for Political Asylum while in Colombia and soon after, we (I’m an only child) legally moved to the Beehive State (Utah) in the United States. Almost ten years after we arrived, we became naturalized citizens.
Although we were familiar with other parts of the country thanks to vacations and business trips, my parents ultimately picked Utah because my dad learned how clean, organized, and put-together it was (and still is).
I’m Catholic.
My parents’ choice to come to Utah had nothing to do with any religious ties to the state’s predominant system of beliefs.
In fact, we’re all cradle Catholics. I had gone to private Catholic school my whole life, and so it made sense to have me enroll at a Catholic school when we moved here and later graduate to its sister high school.
After a few years of living as a Catholic “in name only” (i.e., one who didn’t care to or know she had to attend Mass regularly, for instance), I’ve fully come back to the Church, and I’m better for it.
I’ll describe my “conversion story” later in more detail (it has to do with losing a baby), but suffice it to say I’m ready to fervently live out my faith and follow God’s plan.
I’m a Conservative.
Not many people these days can say that they’re part of the Millennial Hispanic Conservative subset of the population, but I’m a proud member!
I’m on a mission to spread the image that Millennials who happen to be Hispanic and Conservative are not only sane, but also have more common sense than some think. Plus, I’m not entitled and work hard for what I want.
I’m a full-time wife, mom, and “dog mom”!
I met my husband on OKCupid in 2014–long before online dating became crazy and AI had a role in it. We courted for over a year before getting engaged, and then got married almost two years after our engagement.
Before you laugh at my use of the term “courted,” I’d like to remind you that it just means that he and I knew very early on we were in it for the long haul and were monogamous essentially after the first date. There was no question as to with whom we’d spend the rest of our lives.
I’m also a FULL-TIME mom, meaning I stay at home with our children. It’s called “full-time” because I don’t outsource their care or drop them off at some daycare with underpaid staff who won’t love/parent them.
Instead, I love on them all day and we’re fortunate to have chosen this path before we even got engaged. We also homeschool! (And no, we also don’t share pictures of them anywhere online.)
I’m also a blogger.
I used to think of myself as an influencer but I now think that word has “evolved” to include people who merely get off on Likes and do nothing but pose in front of a camera or exploit their kids while offering fake endorsements of brands they wouldn’t have ever talked about if they hadn’t been compensated by that company in the first place.
So instead, I like to focus on being an OG blogger! I’ve been blogging since 2010-2011 and I thoroughly enjoy putting my written voice (and now my spoken voice) and unique/against-the-norm perspective out there.
