About Me

Hola,
I’m Annie!
Homemaker.
Wife.
Homeschooler. Encourager.
I’m a stay-at-home mom who believes that serving God and serving one’s family go hand-in-hand. I’m a lifelong perfectionist who’s slowly backed off that train for the sake of being more present, real, and, yes, imperfect but still wholly grateful.

My Story
I Didn’t Start Out Knowing Any of This
I’m Annie, a Christian and proud Hispanic (and bilingual!) mom and homemaker who loves being a wife and homeschooler. If you’ve found your way here, you’re likely a little like me—someone who cares deeply about her family, her values, and a life lived to worship God.
As a Millennial mom, I know the world looks very different today than it did when we were growing up. I’ve chosen to create a life for my family that may look traditional or downright boring and simple to some, but feels perfect to us as it aims to bring back some of those things we took for granted “back in our day.”.
Staying home to spoil my husband and helping to raise and homeschool our kids are *choices* I treasure, and I pour my energy into making our home a safe, happy, and healthy space for our family. It’s not always easy, but it’s a responsibility I’m grateful for every day. Homemaking–and homeschooling and mothering– have been God’s path of humility and sanctification for me. Now, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What OTHERS Say
“The world’s Okayest Mom.”
A hilarious tee I was gifted
“She fostered a hostile work environment.”
A former co-worker. Allegedly.
“I have such a friendly mom! You’re a very nice mom!”
Our oldest when he was ~5
I know that some of my choices, like my commitment to true conservative values and homeschooling, may not align with mainstream thinking. But I think it’s essential to stand up for what I believe in, and I know there are many others out there who feel the same. Hence this blog.
You’ll find that I’m always here to share practical homemaking tips, homeschooling insights, no-nonsense views, and ideas on how we can live purpose-driven lives. If you’re looking for encouragement, support, or even just someone who “gets it,” I invite you to stick around.
Whether you’re here for home education resources, advice on keeping a peaceful home, or to talk about family and faith, you’re in the right place.

With Gratitude at Home
I’m neither fancy nor perfect. But what I try to be is simply grateful for what my blessings and faithful to God for honoring me with them.

Not Trendy

My Journey
A Timeline of Where This All Started
2002
Moved to the USA
My parents and I legally moved to the USA from Colombia in the Fall of 2002. They were being persecuted for their beliefs and therefore sought asylum (while in Colombia). We became Permanent Residents (i.e., got our “Green Cards) a few years later and then naturalized citizens in 2012.

2010
Blog & College
I launched this blog at around the same time I was working on my Honors Thesis and getting ready to graduate from college the first time. I went back a couple of years later for a second degree.

2014
Met My Husband
My Alabamian husband and I met and began courting during my Corporate America phase. I thought I wanted to be a lawyer so he patiently waited while I studied. Shortly afterwards I changed my mind, let him know I wanted to stay home to nurture our future kids instead, and he proposed later that year.

2017
Got Married
We became Husband and Wife at my childhood parish and celebrated at a beautiful hotel downtown. I remember not being able to wait until he no longer had to drop me off at the end of a date! After such a legendary day, he drove us home that evening and carried me over the threshold of our (new to us) house. The next day we started our honeymoon on Oahu and Maui.

The Pandemic
Became A Mom
Sometime after the infamous pandemic started, I became a mom, and my world forever changed. Being a mom has been enlightening, humbling, fun, and sanctifying. I wouldn’t trade staying home with our sunshines for the world.

The Years Since
Lost Our Baby & We Welcomed Our Youngest
Baby Owen, whom we lovingly refer to as our Middle Child, became our little saint in Heaven the year before our youngest was born. As an only child, being a mom of two has had many surprising aspects!

What I Believe
The Principles That Guide My Blog Posts

Moms Should Stay Home
Children are most strongly attached to their moms, which is why she should stay with her little(s) for at least their first few years to help ensure all kinds of positive outcomes. Most kids don’t need daycare!

Kids Don’t Belong Online
Children can’t consent to (and lack the capacity to understand) all that being shared online entails, from the potential “fame” to the dangers. Don’t exploit kids!

Honesty Is Where It’s At
I will tell you the truth kindly and directly. I keep things honest here because I value sharing a true (albeit unpopular) point of view. I judge actions (not souls), which, Newsflash: We ARE allowed to do as Christians.

Living Counterculturally Can Make You Happier
When you eschew trends and focus on what really matters, you start eliminating what’s irrelevant while maximizing the things that improve your own and your family’s wellbeing.

A Few Things You Should Know About Me
Do you relate?

Morning Person
I get up hours before the kids are up to exercise, get ready for the day, and either blog or take care of online to-dos. This is my Key time and my secret to remaining a bit more sane in the day.

Dog “Mom”
We have a Husky-Border Collie named Archer whom we adopted from a family in another state at five weeks old. He’s enamored with us and we’re pretty smitten with him too (though not with the holes he digs).

Avid Reader
I read 40+ books a year, mostly on parenting, home education, and fiction. I love how much wiser they’ve helped make me. I also listen to podcasts every day while cooking and tidying up.

Peloton Rider
I’ve had my Peloton (I’m its only rider so yes, it’s mine) since the Pandemic and I ride it four days each week while watching something on my iPad. Sometimes I hurry to work out because I can’t wait to get back to that show or movie.

Bilingual
Spanish is my native language, but English is close behind as I’ve been learning it since I was 6. Our kids are growing up bilingual and I teach several topics in our homeschool in Spanish, too!

This is My Paradise
Our home is my haven and paradise, the place I yearn for when I’m away. But a little part of me still wants to visit Hawaii after the mark it left on me during our Honeymoon and first-anniversary trip.
