oNecklace Jewelry Beautifully and Affordably Adorns Every Season

I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but as always, all opinions are my own.

When it comes to jewelry, I’m definitely more of a minimalist who enjoys wearing a few great-quality and timeless pieces at a time. I also prefer dainty pieces–things that highlight my delicate features rather than overpower them. Like with the clothes I wear, I use jewelry to accentuate my body for me instead of flashing it for strangers’ eyes.

That’s where oNecklace comes in.

When oNecklace contacted me earlier this year to participate in this campaign I was very excited because, well, I LOVE jewelry and have practically my whole life. (Don’t believe me? I first got my ears pierced when I was just a day old, then got the second set of piercings at six years old, and my third set at 13.)

Truth be told, and a little behind-the-scenes admission: I’m very grateful to oNecklace for patiently waiting until I got better (quick catch-up because I’ll be posting more about it soon: I had multiple spine injuries that, over the span of one year, got worse, then got better, and now I’m back to normal) and was able to produce content worthy of being on my blog and read by you all.

This brings me to my next point: In six months, you learn a lot about your jewelry–from what it looks like across two seasons to how it reacts to the passing of time. While I felt a bit embarrassed that I couldn’t do much in ~half a year while my body healed, I don’t regret having all that time to wear my jewelry “out in the wild” and really experience it in real life before I could write about it. I note this as a way to reiterate how frank and transparent I strive to be in all of my reviews.

Unfortunately, one of the three I picked pieces didn’t “age well” during that time, and I’ll get to that momentarily. But the other two have definitely become two staples of mine.

What is oNecklace?

If you have never heard of this company, I won’t blame you because I hadn’t either until my rep, Donna, reached out. Within seconds I was captivated by all the pretty pieces available in stock on its website. One key aspect that made oNecklace stand out in my mind was its emphasis on personalization: In fact, its About page explains that oNecklace “deals exclusively with customized name necklaces”:

Inspired by the concept of personalized nameplate pendants, we opened our doors to the world in 2012 and have been creating beautiful and fashionable customized jewelry.

… All the wonderful creations crafted in our confines could not have been possible if it were not for our state of the art factory. This is where the process of turning names and initials into lovely pieces of jewelry unfolds. Coupled with efficient machinery and a competent workforce, we can use all your ideas while creating personalized name necklaces to meet your personal sense of style.

The funny thing is, though, that I wasn’t all that attracted to the customization aspect of it. I mean, sure, name necklaces are special and meaningful, but I’ve honestly (and oddly >>) always been scared of the potential of a stranger calling me by my name after they see it on a pendant :). However, I do enjoy monograms and initials–and you’ll find plenty of examples in our home.

But I digress.

While I had the option of adding my name to the pieces I selected, and of going for other pieces that more prominently featured a name or special phrase, I decided to go simple and timeless, with jewelry that didn’t have anything that tied it to me specifically.

The pieces I chose

For this campaign I selected the Birthstone Earring Jackets (with emeralds) and the Twisted Bracelet And Ring Set:

As I’ve never worn earring jackets and they seemed like a fun, quirky addition to my collection, I wanted to personalize them by adding the (non-real) emeralds as a sort-of homage to my native Colombia, which exports the most emeralds in the world.

The reason why I chose the twisted bracelet and ring has a bittersweet backstory

They remind me of some expensive designer bangles my mom wore when I was growing up, which were a bit thicker than oNecklace’s, but sufficiently reminiscent of them to bring a smile to my face every time I see them. If you were around back then, you’ll know which I’m referring to and I think the designer is still making them, actually. (Unfortunately, most of her jewelry–incl. those priceless bangles–was stolen from our penthouse a year or so before we moved to the U.S.)

Given their history, imagine my surprise and nostalgia when I read oNecklace’s own description of this set:

This 80’s design is back and ready to stay!

The twisted jewelry was one of the biggest trends a few decades ago and now its making a comeback in the fashion world.

You can’t miss this chance to have the best set that goes with every look.

Needless to say, when I saw this set on the oNecklace website I was ecstatic because they resembled the bracelets I’ve been enamored with since I was little but were the right amount of dainty for my skinny wrists.

What happened to the earrings :(?

I made sure to pick my pieces in sterling silver to prevent (or at least slow the progress of) any tarnishing. I also never wore any of the pieces while washing my hands (in the case of the bracelet and the ring) or washing my hair (in the case of the earrings) so they weren’t exposed to any chemicals. In fact, I always kept them safely stored in the cases they came in.

However, none of those measures saved the earrings as they ended up discoloring and looking like I hadn’t cared for them in years :(. Not only that, but as I was taking one of the earrings out of its case one day, one of its emerald-like stickers/stuck-on rhinestone-looking thingies (?) randomly fell out, sadly never to be seen again.

In light of this, while I can’t vouch for the quality of the earrings, I’m happy to report that after six months, the bracelet and earring still look like the did on the day I got them, so that’s why they got most of the attention in this post.

Without further ado: Here are the bracelet and ring!

Our family photographer Claire Marika captured these pieces so beautifully, truly showing their charm during one recent bright Fall afternoon:

All in all

oNecklace has beautiful pieces for your everyday, a special occasion, the perfect gift, etc.

The earrings incident doesn’t dissuade me from becoming a return customer as I’m positive the company would be happy to remedy the issue and stand behind the quality of its products. Therefore, I don’t think it should affect you, either.

If you’re picky like me and like take pride in choosing pieces that’ll last a while, you’ll like the quality of oNecklace jewelry (in my case I’ll make sure they don’t have any extras that could easily come off) and I look forward to patronizing this company in the future.

You might like these too!
